Eisenhower Gets Mad
The American people thought that they were on top of the world at one point. They thought that they were so advanced that their military could stop any attacks from happening. In a way the US was one of the top powers in the world yes, but they were not invincible. The people learned this the hard way after finding out that the USSR made successful atomic bombs just like they had.

terror hourVal Peterson went on TV to talk about the state of the War. His position was to make the atomic bombs seem less threatening to the people watching. It caused terror over the people when they heard that there would be no way to stop an Atomic attack from the Soviet Union. Everyone thought that the military would be able to prevent this from happening based on a study that was made the year before, but after research it would have been nearly impossible to do so. It was now clear to the public that we were not above them anymore and that they had just as much equal power as the US did.

soviets and new weaponsThe USSR made successful nuclear weapons which put them right in the position that they wanted to be in. Equal in power with the US. This showed that the USSR could destroy us just as much as we could to them. They now were able to make the same weapons that we were, which didn't put one country above the other like the people were hoping for. This turned into a race to see who could make more of the deadly weapons to win the Cold War.

end of the war?Stalin died in 1953, the same year when Americans found out about the Soviets nuclear weapons. Everyone thought that the Soviet people were against communism so after Stalin died they would rise up and allow Eisenhower to win the war. However, this didn't happen, they didn't do anything different than they did under his control so the war went on for another 5 months. The USSR tested their own atomic bomb and the US found out about it from TV, Eisenhower got mad about the test being successful. Tensions continued to rise and he needed to continue to keep his cool like he's always done.
